Baptistries — What you need to know when purchasing. PT 3

Now on to the accessories! (Multiple parts on the accessories, it will take several posts to get through them all.) The first and most important accessory is the heater pump package. There are two ways to go here, manual and fully automatic. A manual system will have a manual fill valve and a manual drain. It will be a little cheaper than a fully automatic system. In new installations, it is STRONGLY suggested that you go with a fully automatic system. Baptistries take a long time to fill and are easily forgotten. We can not tell you how much we hate to get those calls where the baptistry was forgotten and the water damage wrecked their floors, carpet, pews … In those instances we can only wince and hope the answer is “yes” when we ask them if they were fully insured. We don’t want this to happen to you. We know the fully automatic systems are a few hundred bucks more and that can be a lot of money to many churches. If you have to, skimp somewhere else, it is that important. The heater size is an option that we will help you with when making your selections. We will suggest the unit appropriate for the size of your baptistry, but sometimes that will not work due to electrical issues. We will ask you questions about your electrical service at the installation location and how fast you need the baptistry to come to temperature. If you are replacing an older pump/heater system or decide to go with a manual system you will have a couple of decisions to make. Do you want a standard fill valve or a flush mount fill valve? The standard valve sits on the deck of the baptistry and is very similar to a Roman tub faucet. The flush mount valve mounts in the side of the baptistry and is more concealed. You will also have to choose a manual drain or a deluxe manual drain. The deluxe drain uses an external cable to open the drain so drains faster than the deluxe and the cable linkage is positive and normally trouble free. If you do not specify a choice we will normally spec the deluxe drain. Please return next time, when we go into detail about windows, landings etc.
