Church Kitchen Safety

Some things for churches with kitchens to ask themselves about the safety of their kitchen areas.
Who is responsible for the kitchen?
Do you have written guides for the use and maintenance of the area that specify who is responsible for clean-up, lock-up etc?
Do you require a schedule for use of the area? Is that schedule up to date?
Do you lock cabinets or storage areas that contain valuable or dangerous items? Are they accessible to all or only to authorized individuals?
Does the area contain hazards to children or persons unfamiliar with the equipment? How are these hazards secured?
Does the area have working fire extinguishers with the proper rating?
Is emergency lighting or flashlights etc available for power outages?
Are all electrical cords and appliances in good repair?
Is there a phone, buzzer or other way to get emergency assistance?
Does the area have clearly marked and unobstructed exit doors?
Are there rules in place to prevent doors being propped open?
Are windows and doors secure?
